Overview

The Assam tea at Hin Lad Nai grows in the shade of standing trees, not on open ground that had to be cleared first. That single difference changes both how it is tended and what the plant has to give up.

01 / Under Canopy

Grown under what was never cut down.

In a conventional tea system the existing trees are taken out to open the ground to full sun. At Hin Lad Nai the tea lives alongside trees that are still standing. The plants are part of the structure of the forest rather than a replacement for it.

02 / Slow By Design

Slow, because the system is built that way.

Growing in shade means the picking cycle comes round more slowly than on open ground. To a production system that is a cost. To the forest it is what keeps the canopy in place. We chose the second reading.

03 / In The Formula

Its role in the formula.

Assam tea is used as the partner to the forest honey in the same formula. As with the honey, the numbers belong on the TRACE page rather than this one, and they get published only once they have been tested.
