A forest still standing is the first condition of the formula.
Hin Lad Nai sits in the Mae Lao headwaters in Chiang Rai. The Pgaz K'Nyau community there looks after roughly 10,000 rai of community forest, under rules the community wrote itself, enforces itself, and revises when the forest's conditions change.
The forest honey and Assam tea we use do not come from cleared plantations. They grow under a canopy that was never opened. Both are products that require a living forest in order to exist at all — not because we chose it that way, but because that is their own condition.
